Freckles & Beauty Marks

WHAT IS A FRECKLE/BEAUTY MARK TATTOO?

A freckle tattoo, also known as freckle micropigmentation or cosmetic freckle tattooing, is a cosmetic procedure where small, semi-permanent freckle-like marks are tattooed onto the skin. It involves using a specialized tattooing technique to create realistic-looking freckles on areas such as the face, shoulders, or décolletage. This procedure is typically sought after by individuals who desire a more freckled appearance or wish to enhance existing freckles. Freckle tattoos can vary in size, shape, and color to achieve a natural and customized result.

ABOUT THE PROCESS

During the appointment, there will be a separate consultation where I use a pencil or a similar tool to outline the desired areas on the face for freckle placement. The tattooing process will only begin once the client approves the drawn outline. Numbing is not typically required for this gentle procedure, but it is available upon request for those who may prefer it.

Although the actual placement of freckles is fully customizable, the image below is provided as a reference to illustrate the expected outcome for each freckle category.

Freckle touch-ups is £150, and these appointments can be scheduled 6-12 weeks after the initial appointment.

For beauty marks, the price is £150 for up to 3 marks. Each additional beauty mark is £20. However, if the number of beauty marks exceeds 8, the pricing will default to the freckle pricing structure.

HEALING & AFTERCARE

Immediately after the procedure, it is common for the surrounding areas of the fresh tattoo to appear red. This redness is temporary and typically subsides within 1-2 hours. Over the course of the following week, the freckles may appear dark, raised, and somewhat unrealistic. This is a normal part of the healing process and is due to the skin underneath still needing time to fully heal and the freckle scabs to naturally fall off. In some cases, this healing period can take up to two weeks. It will then take a few more weeks for the color and skin to settle, and the final results can usually be assessed around week 4.

While I strive for optimal ink retention, it's important to note that due to the superficial implantation of the ink and the natural movement and exposure our faces undergo, it is normal to experience some freckle fall-out (around 10-20%). However, clients will have the opportunity to add more freckles during the touch-up session. Layering the freckles will also help achieve a more natural appearance.

It is essential for clients to keep the tattooed area dry for approximately 1-2 weeks until the scabs have naturally fallen off. Depending on the number and placement of freckles, this may pose a challenge for some individuals. Washing the area with soap and water or applying any products, except for a very light layer of aquaphor or plain, unscented lotion, should be avoided. Clients can use blotting papers to absorb excess oil, but no other products should be used.

If a client needs to wear a mask for extended periods at work, it is crucial to begin with a clean mask and change it every few hours. The friction caused by wearing a mask can affect the healing process.

Makeup application and the resumption of regular skincare routines should only occur after the scabs have fallen off. It is important to maintain a clean environment and avoid using harsh products and soaps until the freckles have fully healed.

For clients with upcoming important events, it is advisable to schedule the appointment at least 2-3 weeks prior to the event date to allow sufficient healing time.

Am I a suitable candidate?

Freckle tattoos can enhance anyone's appearance when executed properly, but they tend to yield the best results on individuals with dry to combination skin who already possess some natural pigmentation, even if it is very light.

If you regularly use skincare products that target dark spots, such as Vitamin C, AHAs, BHAs, or Vitamin A derivatives like Retinol or Retinoid, your tattoo may fade more quickly. It is crucial to discontinue the use of these products at least 2 weeks before your appointment.

Clients with skin conditions like rosacea, acne, eczema, or others may not benefit from freckle tattoos as the process and aftercare instructions could potentially cause inflammation and exacerbate existing skin issues.

Can I still wear makeup?

Once your freckles have completed the initial healing process, you can wear makeup. However, if you use medium to full coverage foundation, it will likely cover the freckles. For a more natural look with peeking freckles, it is recommended to use skin tints or light coverage foundation.

Is it permanent?

While cosmetic tattoos are referred to as "semi-permanent," their actual permanence varies from person to person. Over the next 1-3 years, everyone will experience some fading, and there may come a point where the freckles become undetectable to the client. However, there may still be a slight residue of color depending on individual factors such as skin tone and lifestyle.

If a client feels that their freckles no longer suit them, there are always options available for removal or lightening.
